Even after officially beginning his new role as President of the United States on Monday (he decided to take the weekend off after the inauguration), Donald Trump is still obsessed with the people who have criticized his pathetically small inauguration crowd.
It has been widely noted that the crowds that showed up at Trump’s inauguration were tiny compared to the Americans that traveled far and wide to see former President Barack Obama. To make matters worse, the Women’s March on Washington – a protest organized against Trump – outnumbered his inauguration by far. If people hoped they would see a side of Trump that was less petty than the one they saw before he officially took office, he’s disappointing them greatly.
At a time when he should be focusing on the future of America, Trump is living deep in the past. Last night, during his interview with David Muir on ABC, Trump couldn’t stop talking about the crowds at his inauguration, desperate to win the approval of his critics and prove them wrong. At the end of the interview, Trump and Muir walked around to look at some of the new photos Trump hung in the White House – and then things got really weird.
While the first two photographs were pictures of him dancing with First Lady Melania Trump and getting sworn in, Trump couldn’t resist bringing up his inauguration crowds. He pointed out another photo to Muir, and said:
Here’s a picture of the event. Here’s a picture of the crowd. Now, the audience was the biggest ever, but this crowd was massive. Look how far back it goes. This crowd was massive. And I would actually take that camera and take your time if you want to know the truth.”
The interview continued on for a few more minutes, before Trump mentioned the inauguration – again. At the end of the interview, Trump couldn’t resist showing ABC just one more photograph. Trying his best to convince America that he isn’t the most hated man in the country right now, Trump pointed to the “crowds” at his inauguration and said:
“One thing this shows is how far over they go here. Look, look how far this is… Nobody sees that. You don’t see that in the pictures. But when you look at this tremendous sea of love…it’s really something special that all these people traveled here from all parts of the country, maybe the world…they loved what I had to say, but more importantly, they’re gonna love the result.”
Absolutely pathetic. Trump is treating this presidency like a popularity contest, and it’s a battle he can’t win. He has the lowest approval rating, and even his own voters regret supporting him already. We all know the truth about his inauguration, so he’s clearly wasting his breath and time. Unfortunately, we are the ones who will suffer for it.
